Liverpool should resist a move for Matheus Cunha in the summer – because Arne Slot‘s side simply don’t need him, according to Gus Poyet.
The Wolves forward, 25, has been linked with a host of clubs in recent months after impressing in the club’s bid to retain their Premier League status, registering 12 league goals and four assists.
Cunha was the subject of interest from Arsenal in the January transfer window before committing his future to Wolves by signing a new deal at the start of the month.
However, the Brazilian’s new contract is known to contain a £62million release clause and plenty of clubs, including Liverpool, have already been tipped to make a move.
But Poyet doesn’t think Cunha would improve Liverpool’s side, telling Makthavare: “I know Liverpool have been linked with Matheus Cunha, but right now, they need nothing! They’re seven points clear at the top of the Premier League and have a great squad, so I don’t think they need to make any big moves.
“Cunha is a great player and is having a brilliant season, but all Liverpool have to do is keep winning football matches – which they are.
The outcome of contract talks with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Virgil van Dijk is likely to determine how active Liverpool will be in the transfer market this summer, with all three set to become free agents in the coming months.
