Former Premier League referee David Coote has been banned by UEFA until June 30, 2026, after being found guilty of bringing ‘the sport of football, and UEFA in particular, into disrepute’.
Coote was dismissed by the PGMOL in December following an internal investigation into a video in which he made derogatory comments about Liverpool and their former manager, Jurgen Klopp. The footage, which surfaced on social media in November, led to an immediate suspension and subsequent probe by both the PGMOL and the FA.
The controversy surrounding Coote deepened when a second video emerged, allegedly showing him snorting a white powder while working as an assistant VAR during Euro 2024.
UEFA launched its own ethics investigation, ultimately leading to his suspension from officiating in European competitions for nearly two years.
