Liverpool manager Arne Slot is set to be watching on from the stands this weekend after receiving a straight red card during the draw with Everton on Wednesday night. The last Merseyside derby at Goodison Park descended into chaos in the final moments after James Tarkowski scored a late equaliser for the Blues.
Abdoulaye Doucoure and Curtis Jones were both sent off for second bookable offences after a melee was started by the former celebrating in front of the Liverpool fans. After that incident was dealt with by referee Michael Oliver, the official showed straight red cards to both slot and his assistant Sipke Hulshoff.
Despite being a straight red card, both Slot and Hulshoff will serve one-match touchline bans that will be activated on Sunday when the Reds host Wolverhampton Wanderers in the Premier League. But just what can Slot do on Sunday
Where can Slot watch the match?
Unless the Premier League decides to strengthen the punishment, which seems unlikely, Slot will be able to watch the match against Wolves from the director’s box at Anfield on Sunday. He will not be permitted to watch the match from the touchline, as is his usual right.
Can Slot communicate with his players and staff on the bench?
Slot cannot go down directly to the bench to communicate with his staff and players. However, he can use a phone, walkie-talkie or utilise a ‘runner’ to pass his orders to those in the dugout.
The Dutchman will also be able to deliver his pre-match, half-time and post-match team talks to his squad inside the dressing room. However, he is not allowed to communicate with the referee or match officials at any point.
He is also banned from being on the touchline at any stage during the proceedings at Anfield. This means Slot will not be allowed on the touchline prior to, during or after the final whistle
