Liverpool midfielder Tyler Morton is set to be sidelined for several weeks after surgery on a shoulder complaint
Tyler Morton has revealed that he has had a successful operation on a shoulder issue that is expected to keep him sidelined for several weeks.
The 22-year-old has featured just nine times for the Reds this season, most recently in last month’s 3-2 defeat to PSV Eindhoven, and last week Arne Slot revealed that he had sustained a a shoulder injury that would keep him sidelined for several weeks.
Writing on Instagram, the England under-21 international said: “Operation went well. Thank you to everyone for your messages.”
Morton was linked with a move away from Anfield earlier this month as Championship promotion hopefuls Middlesbrough held talks with the player about a return to the Championship. Boro had an initial approach rebuffed from Liverpool, who valued the 22-year-old at in excess of £10m.
In the end, however, no agreement was reached and Morton remained at Anfield.
Speaking about his future in January, Morton admitted it was time to be “selfish” after a difficult season at Anfield.
“It’s been tough for me this season, minutes-wise,” Morton said. “I think I’ve handled it very well, I’ve kept my head down and have given everything every day. I think I do deserve the chance and hopefully people thought I took it.
“I think I had a good game and it was exciting, and when you don’t get many chances, you’ve got to take them and I feel like I did today.
“This month is a big month for myself. It’s decision time, and I feel ready to kick on and be a proper professional, if that’s here or someone else. I need to be a bit selfish and go with however I feel.”
